Christmas is coming and in our school we are trying you to live Christmas in an alternative way to the individual consumism provided by the famous "Markets". This is the third year we put forward a solidarity campaign with the motto: "LIVING A DIFFERENT CHRISTMAS, A SOLIDARITY CHRISTMAS".
We're waiting for presents, buying lots of food, but this is a moment to think of other people who can't live Christmas and the rest of the year like us.
Here you can watch, read and sing the song by Phil Collins Another Day in Paradise (1989), written for the Non-Governmental Organization CARITAS, supporting the people who live in the streets.
You can also watch the video from Michael Jackson's song Heal the World. After this song, the singer also created the Heal the World Foundation, a charitable organization which was designed to improve the lives of homeless children. The organization was also created to teach children how to help others

1) Do you know what's a (NGO) Non-Governmental Organization? Caritas is the name of a Non-Governmental Organization, do you know other Non-Governmental Organizations?

HALLOWEEN IN IESO SIERRA LA MESTA
For the first time, we celebrated Halloween in our school. Fifty-one Jack-o-Lanterns were shown made by the students and some posters to decorate the halls of the School Center.
Next year we'll try to do it better.

SPEAKING: SAY HELLO!!!
At the begining of this course you’ll have to say “hello” many times to a lot of people. Do you know other words in English to say “hello”. Here is a list of expressions:
-HELLO: This is the most usual way.
-HI!!! or HEY!!! : Imagine you’re walking on the street and see a friend.
-HOW DO YOU DO: It doesn’t mean anything, only “hello”, but it’s formal.
-GOOD DAY / GOOD MORNING / GOOD AFTERNOON / GOOD EVENING / GOOD NIGHT: Everyday millions of people say these expressions. In the morning British and American people usually say only “Morning!!!”
-HOW IS IT GOING? : Similar to “how do you do?”
-WHAT’S UP?: Young people use it a lot. Rap singers, skaters and other young usually say WASSUP! or the interjection YO!!!.
-HOWDY!: Similar to “How do you do” in some states of the USA.
-AY-UP!: In some parts of England say “hello” in this way.
-AHOY-HOY: When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1870 used this greeting to answer the first phone call in History. Montgomery Burns uses it in The Simpsons. He’s so old! Nobody uses this expression today.
-HOLA!: Yes, in the USA may people use it. It’s an Spanish influence. The difference is that they pronounce the “h”.

EUROBASKET LITHUANIA 2011
Twenty-four teams are fighting for the Eurobasket until September 18th, the day of the final match. This is the first time it takes place in Lithuania. Spain participates as the main favorite, as the Champion of the last edition in 2009 in Poland.
